![]() If something has Ted Lasso vibes, that means it is sweet and wholesome. That show quickly became a hit Sudeikis and his eponymous character have become a cultural shorthand for earnestness. Meanwhile, Sudeikis’s Ted Lasso premiered in August 2020. Because of Booksmart’s triumph and Wilde’s growing reputation as a director, a heated bidding war for Don’t Worry Darling began that summer, and in April of 2020, it was announced that Pugh and Shia LaBeouf would star. It was so widely loved that many, Hollywood insiders included, felt that its modest $25 million box office haul was a sign of how broken the movie industry is. In 2019, Wilde directed Booksmart, which was a critical success. ![]() Unsuccessful couples are definitely not couple goals. ![]() If there’s lopsided success, a celebrity couple just isn’t aspirational. Wilde-Sudeikis were considered cool and “ couple goals.” Part of being “couple goals” in Hollywood is that both famous people have to be independently successful. (Bear with me this concept is embarrassing for all of us.) To fully fathom this entire saga, one important thing to understand is that back in 2020, Wilde and Sudeikis were a beloved celebrity couple. ![]() The Harry Styles-Olivia Wilde-Jason Sudeikis love triangle of it all To that end, we’ve attempted to bring you all the drama to one place, in semi-chronological order.Īll that scandal and speculation can be fun in its own special way, but when it comes to this movie - darling, I’m worried. It’s unclear whether people were undeterred by the drama going on behind the scenes or were actually motivated by the mess, but the movie had a solid opening and looks to earn back its reported $35 million budget.Įither way, it’s clear that Don’t Worry has become one of those movies where the real drama is behind the scenes. Despite negative and even scathing reviews, however, Don’t Worry Darling hauled in an estimated $19 million in its domestic debut and $10.8 million worldwide during its opening weekend in late September. Tensions between Pugh and Wilde have, like the love triangle between Styles, Wilde, and Sudeikis, threatened to eclipsed the movie itself. There have also been rumors that Pugh didn’t care for Wilde and Styles’s relationship. And in one of the rare moments when she has spoken about the movie, Pugh grumbled at the idea of her performance being reduced to sex scenes. While Wilde has been effusive about Pugh, Pugh has not been promoting this movie or returning Wilde’s warmth. Meanwhile, Pugh, the star of Don’t Worry, hasn’t been on the same page as her director. That timing would explain why Sudeikis served Wilde custody papers during a huge promotional stop for the movie. Speculation is that Wilde and Styles may have had an affair on set. While filming, Wilde split with her longtime partner Jason Sudeikis and began dating the lead of Don’t Worry, pop star Harry Styles. Much of the drama comes back to director Olivia Wilde, who among other things told Variety that only women have orgasms in the film. Now that I’ve experienced the Don’t Worry Darling press tour, I wish I could go back in time and live in a world where I didn’t. I couldn’t tell you the plot (something about ’50s housewives?) but know all too much about the supposed behind-the-scenes drama, from the interviews to the non-interviews, the snubs and the Shia and the spit takes. Personally, everything I’ve learned about the feature film - which stars Florence Pugh and should use a comma after “worry” in its title - has been against my will. And some people have the Don’t Worry Darling press tour. ![]()

![]() The satire comes across most sharply in the songs, penned by Girls5eva creator Meredith Scardino, executive producer Jeff Richmond, and a writers’ room. (Their fifth member, played holographically by Ashley Park, met a tragic end in an infinity pool accident.) As they patch things up and try to recapture the zeitgeist, there are nonstop riffs on late ’90s/early ’00s pop culture, the cravenness of celebrity, and the music industry’s frequently flawed attempts at girl power. The titular girls are caught in various ruts: Dawn (Sara Bareilles) works at her brother’s restaurant Summer ( Busy Philipps) is a ditzy Housewives wannabe Gloria (Paula Pell) is a divorced lesbian dentist Wickie (Renée Elise Goldsberry) is pretending to be fabulous when she is actually broke. That earworm’s promise-“Gonna be famous five-ever/’Cause four-ever’s too short”-has flopped. This musical comedy from the Tina Fey universe follows a TRL-era girl group as its middle-aged members mount a comeback after a young rapper samples their big hit. Watching Inside will probably make you feel like shit, but at least you’ll be laughing and singing along. Running the gamut from Speak & Spell-era Depeche Mode to faux-Broadway to Phoebe Bridgers-approved indie folk, these songs are bleak, hilarious, and catchy as hell. Two things keep Burnham’s self-lacerating humor on the right side of cringe throughout the special: the production, which delivers breathtaking results using the most basic, lo-fi, DIY techniques (who knew you could get so much mileage out of props and lights seemingly purchased from Party City?), and the music. Written and filmed entirely by the songwriter/comedian alone in a one-room guest house, it is a portrait of a man fully in crisis, unsure of whether to blow his brains out or keep telling jokes. ![]() Like it or not, in 20 years, high school history teachers are probably going to be showing their students Bo Burnham’s Netflix special Inside to illuminate the crisis of the straight white American male as he hurtled towards irrelevancy. ![]() By going granular, the film draws a more humanized portrait of the boy who became a rap king. The details are in the contours: jazz performer Donald Harrison describing how Biggie learned to rap in the style of a bebop drum solo Big’s musician uncle Dave Wallace recalling a young Biggie’s dancehall awakening in scenes filmed in Trelawny, Jamaica his mom, Voletta Wallace, on how Biggie’s father abandoned them. A bulk of the film charts Biggie Smalls’ pre-fame trajectory, using rare archival footage and family interviews alongside maps of the rapper’s now-gentrified stomping grounds in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn to emphasize how community shapes a child’s worldview. Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell dropped this past March, nearly 25 years after Biggie’s death, and yet the documentary offers something new: a distinctly localized view of how a legend popped beyond his street corners and even his own imagination. But often, the best way to illuminate a star is to glimpse back to the era before they became a giant. ![]() Not for the casual fan, Get Back is as good as content dumps get.Ĭountless films have contemplated the art and mystery behind the late Notorious B.I.G. You see Paul’s taskmaster energy, Ringo’s supreme goodness, George’s unmissable style, and John’s need to goof off, but most of all you get a sense of how they really interacted with one another at the worst of times. You see the origins of the ugly “Yoko broke up the Beatles” rumor in parts where Paul is clearly wounded by John not wanting to write together anymore, mixed with the reality that Yoko was probably just mounting a performance art project, and George was justified in quitting first. Across three parts totaling eight hours, the guy best known for making Lord of the Rings wades through Hogg’s original footage to show us that actually, the Beatles were still friends at the end. Peter Jackson’s Get Back is the largest piece since the sprawling Beatles Anthology project, both because it’s not filtered through the surviving members’ memories and because it essentially debunks a key document of the Beatles breakup lore: Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s rare, tense 1970 film on the sessions behind Let It Be, the final Beatles release, and the band’s last live performance. How it ended has always been of some fascination, and every decade or so there is some new piece of the Beatles puzzle revealed that brings us closer to the truth. The Beatles: Get Back / McCartney 3, 2, 1Īdmit it: the myth of the Beatles as the greatest band in the world was cemented by their breakup-they never had a chance to suck. ![]() ![]() She makes it her mission to cure any animals she sees be it from sickness, injuries, or anything in between. ![]() The Merrell Moab would be 90 out of 100 (still the winner).I would rate the Skechers at 60 out of 100 here.2) Skechers Arch Fit Recon Harbin vs Merrell Moab Speed hiking shoes: Once particular area where the Skechers would win against them is in long term resilience, as it is tougher (but these shoes are meant for hiking, not so much trail runs).Īnd this is something common with trail running shoes vs hiking shoes out there.īut overall, for quality, mobility, and a bunch of other factors, the Salomon Speedcross 4, 5 and up is my clear winner. They are just superior in my opinion for hiking, and especially trail running (better traction, comfort and mobility across the board). The Salomon Speedcross shoes I own would be an easy 99 out of 100 and that includes the 3, 4 and 5 (most recent).I would score the Skechers brand at a 50 out of 100.How the Skechers Arch Fit Recon Harbin shoes compare vs others I’ve tried:ġ) Skechers Arch Fit Recon Harbin vs Salomon Speedcross 3, 4 and 5: It is good for outdoor walks, hikes and even climbs and they will do the job in most circumstances (sometimes average, sometimes better than that), but for a serious trail run where explosive movement is involved, I don’t think they are made for that and since I love that type of hike, this is ultimately why I am sticking to my usual trail running shoes: The Salomon Speedcross 5. The second thing I noticed is that it’s not really a shoe I’d enjoy trail running in and this is taste specific. If you change the shoe laces for them, perhaps it’ll be better. That in my opinion will the 1st of 2 major cons these shoes have. They felt comfortable stepping in, but what was annoying for me was how it took A LOT of strength to tie the shoe laces together so that the shoes would feel tighter on my feet and I wouldn’t risk spraining my foot. Initial tests and first impressions:Īfterwards, I had a few situations in which I wore them but mostly for city/concrete walks. My curiosity to find out if Skechers could deliver a great outdoor shoe got the best of me and I purchased a pair for $90. At the time, I had no clue this company actually had sold shoes for more outdoor environments like hikes so I was naturally shocked when I first saw the Skechers Arch Fit Recon Harbin shoes sitting on display and adding to that curiosity, seeing that they had gore tex technology also surprised me.Īt the time, I figured only special type of hiking shoes like the Salomon XA Pro 3D GTX trail running shoes had that kind of fancy stuff, but I was wrong. I was exploring the store and just looking at what was out there. I was in a Skechers store awhile back looking to buy some casual pairs of sneakers. How I got my hands on the Skechers Arch Fit Recon Harbin shoes (and what I think of them): When in water (and getting out) the shoes felt heavier.I’m not a fan of the shoe laces (takes strong effort to tie them so the shoes are tight on you and even then, it doesn’t feel like it’s tight enough). Not something I’d feel too comfortable taking on a long hike or trail run.Surprisingly good traction for water related hikes (I had very few slips in the water hikes I did).Long lasting shoes (can be used for 100’s of miles and possibly years).GTX technology makes these shoes basically 100% waterproof.Good protection offered across the board.Good multitude of uses (rocky roads, concrete, gravel, trails, ect…).Now in addition to my personal rating, I’ve also cross referenced other reviews of people who have tried them and generally speaking, the reviews are 3+ stars and in most cases 4+ stars, so overall: Here’s the average rating for the Skechers Arch Fit Recon Harbin shoes: Pros: Is it really waterproof? Yes, they have GTX technology.Full name: Skechers Arch Fit Recon Harbin. Before I break that stuff down, let’s examine the basics: Skechers Arch Fit Recon Harbin product info: Overall, they are good for basic hiking trails, and there are numerous pros I see, but also cons and if you’re into hiking and considering getting them, I would say they are good for most outdoor environments, but certainly not as good as others that I have tried. 7) Conclusions on the Skechers Arch Fit Recon Harbin shoes: ![]() ![]() “What we do know is AF8, the Alpine Fault rupture, is going to be very long and very complex and there will be very strong aftershocks.” “But it’ll give us a much better handle on what ground motions to expect when it comes. “It won’t help us predict an earthquake, where the epicentre will be or how deep,” Townend says. ![]() Talking the big one, from left, Alice Lake-Hammond, Claire Brown and John Townend. Hence the project’s name: Southern Alps Long Skinny Array. Holden and colleagues from Victoria University and GNS Science have their ears to the ground via the SALSA project, an array of seismic sensors installed the length of the long skinny part of the fault line from Milford Sound to Maruia. It is in fact producing a “hum” the scientists say – a low background noise reflecting the vibrations of the dynamic processes at work deep within the earth. “It’s very active and it’s producing a lot of clues about what the next quake will be like.” “The fault is very close to rupturing,” seismologist Caroline Holden told an audience in Greymouth’s Civic Theatre.
